在历史系就读的女大学生李亦菲（姚琳娜饰）在一堂历史课上，老师向学生介绍了解放初的“四大悬案”，并通过幻灯照片展示了相关情况。这些照片引发了李亦菲的好奇和疑惑，因为她的家就住在丰裕胡同附近。于是，她决定写一篇论文，深入研究当时的社会状况和这些悬案。 为了更好地了解真相，李亦菲决定去一号大院进行实地调查。在大院里，她意外地遇见了爷爷李美文，原来李美文早已猜到了李亦菲会来这里，于是跟着进来了。李美文拿出一本日记和课堂上展示的那张老照片，开始向李亦菲讲述他在一号大院的亲身经历。。This film took the top honor at the 1969 Berlin Film Festival.
