八十年代初期的邵氏电影，在赌片上下的工夫显然是比较大。比如这部投资不大、效益却不小的《打雀英雄传》，就是其中的一个代表作。刚刚在电视银屏上塑造完赌王形象的谢四哥，再度重操旧业，扮演起了足智多谋的麻雀英雄，角色尚算是有情有义。故事围绕着年青电脑专家钱小豪展开，四哥为了帮他，避免其麻雀馆落入麻雀千王败类岳华手上，不惜重新出山与其鏖战，双方斗智，最终胜出一筹。。In the tenth series, in the second episode ("The Son'll Come Out") Michael comes out as gay to his parents, first to his father after coming home drunk then later to his mother.
