夏天伊始，布丽·奇特在芝加哥一个富裕郊区找到了一份工作，给六岁的弗朗西斯当保姆。但与此同时，她却放弃了自己做母亲的权利去做了手术。由于没有时间恢复，她一方面与弗朗西斯产生了许多冲突，另一方面又因与弗朗西斯母亲日益紧张的关系而焦头烂额。随着时间的推移，她们开始建立友情，并从中得到欢乐。。Roscoe and Buster operate a combination garage and fire station.
