这部电影改编自澳洲女作家布朗谢达艾尔普洁的小说，描述一群投奔怒海的越南船民抵达马来西亚东岸，受到当地村民武力对待，血溅海滩。片中除了大马村民屠杀越南船民的埸面之外，还有不少丑化大马人民的情节。例如一名穿着华服的大马王室成员，随着乐与怒音乐的旋律手舞足蹈，一名主角更形容大马人民讨厌。由此影片引起大马与澳洲之间新一轮的外交风波。大马外交部长阿都拉巴达威表示，片中屠杀越南船民的描写是“错误及不正确的"。生于澳洲的《龟滩》的制片人马特卡罗尔也承认，片中越南船民去马来西亚而被屠杀的情节，纯属虚构。。Two paranormal investigators are unexpectedly thrown together in the hope of solving a 100 year mystery.
